When looking for a home don’t forget to also look for the neighborhood. It may not seem as important to some, but the neighborhood can have a big impact on the home you purchase. You are not just buying a home, you are also buying and becoming part of a neighborhood. It is up to you to determine what is most important about a neighborhood. Just like a need and want list of a home, it is a good idea to have a need and want list out of a neighborhood. To help you figure out what to look for in a neighborhood here are some things that can make a neighborhood great!

  • Lifestyle Match:
    • Does the neighborhood sync with your current lifestyle?
    • Does the neighborhood sync with the lifestyle you are working towards? Like having a family?
    • Is the neighborhood a good combination of lifestyles to still be fitting if yours changes?
    • Examples: Suburban neighborhoods may be more fitting for families with kids while small condos downtown may be better for someone young and single

    • Maintaining homes and caring about the neighborhood

    • This gives a sense of ease and calmness
    • Can usually spot a transitional and improving neighborhood by the improvements or decline in crime rates.
    • Check for crime rates near where you live and the areas you are looking to move to.

    • Look up school ratings near you and the areas you are looking to move to.
    • Not only is this great for families with children, but it makes surrounding neighborhoods more valuable.

    • Includes places to jog, sail, bike, tennis courts, golf courses, etc.
    • The type of outdoor activities will vary depending on location.
